All of the price guidelines in this section are for informational purposes and are an approximation. There are many factors that go into pricing a customized fence, including but not limited to machinery access, obstacles, ground conditions, number and quantity of gates, styles, materials, lengths of straight fence runs, amount of layout detail, large grade changes, total linear footage and more.
All prices mentioned do not include HST. All pricing is a range of the average price per foot for a standard yard size of 150lf, or approximately 50' length on three sides, and includes the cost or 1-2 gates. The final quote for your fence may be less per foot if your fence is longer, or it may be more per foot if your fence is shorter.
This guide is meant to help with planning and budgeting for a new fence installation. We aim to help you make an informed decision, so you can choose a fence that’s perfect for your needs and budget.
Commercial fences, Ornamental and Hybrid/Horizontal Fences are not included in this guide, due to the additional factors and materials involved. Please contact us for a commercial, ornamental or Hybrid fence quote.
Vinyl fences offer the best of both chain-link and wood. With total privacy, no-maintenance, and steel supporting the structure, these are fences built to withstand the test of time and will look great for many years to come.
All vinyl fences should be installed with steel in the posts to support the structure, steel to support the gates and rails. With a vinyl fence, there is no staining or painting required (a cost savings in the long run). Vinyl can be customized in countless ways, with different colours, two-tone panels, and orientation. Any up-front cost difference between vinyl and wood is reduced for each time the wood fence would need to be stained or painted. Truly "set it and forget it" maintenance-wise.
Most basic vinyl fences (lighter in colour and without additional toppers) will range from $90/lf to $110/lf ($13500-$16500 for 150' of fence)
Darker colours of vinyl or vinyl fences with toppers (up to 7' tall) normally range from $100/lf to $130/lf ($15000-$19500 for 150' of fence)
These prices will also vary by manufacturer.
The Solid PT wood fence is a great option for strength, beauty and privacy. Like the Chain-link with Privacy Inserts fence, all posts must be set in 4' of concrete (or crushed stone, if that is preferred). The most common heights are 5' and 6', and many people opt for an additional foot of privacy lattice (additional section below)
The most common post width is either 4"x4" or 5"x5" if some additional strength and rigidity is wanted. For the vast majority of fences, 3 line rails are recommended. All posts are capped with steel caps painted black
These fences normally range from $55/lf to $80/lf, depending on height and post size ($8250-$12000 for 150' of fence)
With wood fences, there are different styles that can enhance the appeal of your new fence. The most common alternate styles use a higher number of fence boards, hence the increased cost compared to the solid-style fence. The height and post sizes are similar to that of the solid-style fences.
These fences normally range in price from $65/lf to $85/lf depending on height and post size ($9750-$12750 for 150' of fence)
The most cost effective way to secure your property is with standard residential grade chain-link. The most common options for these fences are 4' or 5' in height(although 3' tall is common for use in front yards as per Ontario traffic standards), and black in colour (although the colours taupe, brown, green and white are also available) . At least 9 gauge wire is always recommended.
Chain-link fences reduce costs by driving the line posts into the ground instead of setting every post in concrete. The gate posts and terminal posts are still set in concrete, however. These fences are a great way to keep children or pets from wandering too far away.
These fences normally range in price from $25/lf to $35/lf ($3750-$5250 for 150' of fence)
Chain-link fences with the additional privacy inserts are a great way to have all the benefits of a regular chain-link fence with the added bonus of some extra privacy. Most customers prefer the 6' tall height option for the increased privacy. Black or taupe are the most common colours, although they can also be installed in green, white, or galvanized/silver.
While the privacy inserts themselves are not too expensive, the way your chain-link fence with privacy inserts is constructed differs from the standard residential chain-link. The post diameter and the top rail diameter are both increased to 2 3/8" and 1 5/8" respectively and every post must be installed in concrete to account for the increased wind-load that the privacy inserts cause.
These fences normally range from $55/lf to $70/lf ($8250-$10500 for 150' of fence)
A wood fence's height is not legally allowed to be higher that 6' tall of vertical board construction in Cornwall and surrounding areas. However, a fences height can be legally increased by up to 2' of lattice for some additional privacy and security. Most commonly, 1' of lattice is added to a fence, for a total height of 7' tall. Traditional lattice, square lattice or vinyl lattice are common types of fence toppers. When installing lattice on top of a 6' fence, 5"x5" posts are always recommended, and the post length will need to be changes from 10' long to 12' long.
The additional price for adding an additional foot of lattice ranges in price from $10/lf-$25/lf depending on type of lattice added, what the original post size was and the height of fence ($1500-$3750 for 150' of fence)
